Christine Banks Calderon coordinates the NYC Science Research Mentoring Consortium, a partnership of 12 institutions with programs that provide mentored STEM research experiences for underserved and underrepresented NYC high school students. Part of her work focuses on building community among the student participants in these programs across diverse disciplines and disparate locations across the city. Initially this largely focused on student events, but last year, the Consortium launched it’s alumni youth council to gather feedback from teens, broaden outreach efforts, and deepen the connections program participants have with each other and the Consortium itself.
