2016 NYCMER Annual Conference: Intersections

Social-emotional skills are crucial to academic success and personal growth and can be particularly challenging for learners with cognitive disabilities. Learn how museums and informal educators can use their engaging subject matter and unique settings to help children and adults with disabilities exercise problem-solving, self-expression, collaboration, self-regulation, and other social skills. Presenters will share how they have engaged diverse audiences with socialemotional learning (SEL) through their programs, resources, and exhibits. Participants will also break into small groups to brainstorm and workshop ways that they can support both the socialemotional and academic learning of visitors with cognitive disabilities in their own practice.
