On April 28, 2015, a diverse collaborative of activist museum workers called Museum Workers Speak (MWS) organized a “rogue session” adjacent to the AAM conference, in which over 75 museum professionals interrogated the relationship between museums’ stated commitments to social justice and their internal labor practices. This workshop transformed a moment to a movement, inciting a year of conversations and action. MWS amplifies the voices of everyday museum workers, elucidating shared experiences that are often silenced. This presentation draws from insights crowd-sourced from the MWS community, sharing strategies for how museum workers can co-create the equitable sector we envision.
