2016 NYCMER Annual Conference: Intersections

Our session will address the intersecting linguistic, sociocultural, and physical barriers students face in museums/cultural institutions and creating learning frameworks, pedagogical tools, and cultural competence to equitably engage these students or students who come from these households. These barriers are often isolated and approached separately, although ultimately these obstacles deal with issues of power, communication, and identity and often have intersecting and overlapping resolutions.

Through text, facilitated dialogue, and critical self-reflection attendees will gain an understanding of these audiences and most importantly gain tools to develop a foundation for meaningful experiences for learners with linguistic, cultural and physical diversity.
