Many access programs throughout NYC successfully engage visitors with special needs. However, these programs are not as frequently scheduled as others and certain individuals with special needs may be overlooking beneficial programming that falls outside of the access banner. Leading museum educators have identified some of these problems and are pioneering initiatives that support Inclusion Programming. Inclusion Programming is a potential solution that breaks down walls and creates an intersection where visitors with and without special needs can meaningfully engage in museum galleries together. In this session, Danielle Hillanbrand will lead a Q&A panel with Danielle Linzer from The Whitney and Laura Sloan from The Rubin Museum of Art, and open up a discussion about the social impact inclusive programming has within museum spaces and the practicalities behind creating this form of engagement. At the end of the panel participants will venture into The Morgan Library’s galleries and practice an activity that can be utilized in inclusive programming and tours.
